In 1976, the National Autistic Society established Robert Ogden School in Rotherham, initially known as Storm House School, with facilities across several sites in Wath-on-Dearne, providing education for children aged two and a half to 16.
The school expanded in 1984 with the founding of Benson House, offering both residential care and daytime education, followed by the opening of the Priory Annex in 1991 to support even younger children.
However, the charity still needed larger premises, and the late Sir Robert Ogden, a philanthropist, purchased the Thurnscoe school building for the charity in 1999. The school was relocated to this new site and renamed the Robert Ogden School, which continues to provide tailored, specialist education and support for autistic children.
