1970 Dedisham School established

The National Autistic Society acquired the lease of the Dedisham Convalescent Nursing Home in Sussex. It opened a residential service in 1970 to provide full-time education, specialised care and teaching for 24 autistic children.

This service is believed to be the first residential special school of its kind in the world.
