1999 Opening the door campaign

In 1999, the National Autistic Society launched its ‘Opening the door’ campaign. This campaign focuses on the importance of diagnosis, in particular early diagnosis, as a way of ‘opening the door’ to support for autistic people and their families.

The campaign report highlighted the need for more training and autism awareness with frontline health professionals, as well as the need for continued support and appropriate signposting.
