We launched our Don’t Write Me Off campaign in 2009 which challenged the systemic inequalities autistic people face in accessing employment and support.
Despite many autistic adults wanting to work, only 15% were in full-time jobs at this time. The campaign called for urgent reform, demanding autism-informed employment services, accessible benefits and staff trained to understand autism. It highlighted how the system often fails to recognise autistic strengths and aspirations. The campaign urged society to listen, learn and act, because no one should be written off simply for being autistic.
