2004 The Undiscovered Workforce

In 2004, we launched The Undiscovered Workforce campaign to highlight the low employment rates among autistic adults - only 6% were in full-time work. The campaign aimed to raise awareness of the barriers autistic individuals face in traditional hiring processes and to promote inclusive employment practices. It encouraged employers to make simple adjustments, such as clearer communication and adapted interviews, to support autistic candidates. By sharing personal stories, the campaign challenged misconceptions and emphasised the value autistic people bring to the workplace, urging businesses to tap into this overlooked and capable talent pool.
