Advent and Christmas spirit in full swing
The festive season at Sybil Elgar School has been absolutely jam packed with excitement and fun! Our students have been immersing themselves in festive activities.
Student committee's festive planning
The student committee met on December 6th to finalize plans for Christmas festivities. Dr. Khursh Khan (Head of School Improvement & Operations) shared the minutes, highlighting the council's enthusiasm for the Christmas jumper and jeans day and the Christmas fayre. The students proposed innovative ideas like a fashion parade and a jumper design competition. They also took the initiative in preparing flyers and decorating the hall for the Christmas fayre, demonstrating remarkable leadership and creativity.
Artistic ventures across campuses
Our Havelock students have been diligently working on murals for the playgrounds, showing noticeable progress each week. Meanwhile, at Woodlands our art teacher Adam has been guiding students in crafting props for the 2023 Christmas Performance. This project, linked with the ASDAN Life Skills Challenge unit, has seen students develop craft-making skills while learning about health and safety. The students have excelled in creating 3D structures, papier mâché, and practising painting techniques for the performance of The Magic Flute story.
Perfomance time: Mozart reimagined
Woodlands presented a captivating performance of "The Magic Flute," brilliantly reinterpreting Mozart's classic opera. This production showcased the exceptional talents and collaboration of various departments, with students delivering powerful performances, creating stunning visual designs, and providing a contemporary musical twist. The play, highlighting themes of courage and the triumph of light over darkness, not only demonstrated the artistic abilities of the students but also fostered a strong sense of community and teamwork.
A closing note from our therapy team
The latest TDT newsletter focuses on making Christmas more autism-friendly, acknowledging the sensory challenges the festive season can bring. It offers practical ideas on preparation, maintaining routines, managing decorations, and handling presents to ensure a comfortable experience for autistic individuals.
The newsletter also provides useful resources and contact information for further support, available on the school's website.
"Wishing all our wonderful students, staff, parents, carers and partners of the school a warm happy festive season. See you in 2024!"
