What is Healthy Eating Week?
Healthy Eating Week is an annual event hosted by the British Nutrition Foundation (BNF) that focuses on promoting healthy living and making positive lifestyle changes. Healthy Eating Week provided a wonderful opportunity to celebrate nutritious choices and create a positive learning environment for our students.
How did we join in Healthy Eating Week?
Throughout the week, our students eagerly participated in cooking lessons and engaged in various healthy food activities. Here's a glimpse into our daily adventures:
Monday: We kicked off the week by making fresh orange juice. With great enthusiasm, our students squeezed oranges and relished the sweet reward of a refreshing glass of juice.
Tuesday: Creativity soared as we explored vegetable carving. Using bell peppers, courgettes, and carrots, our students showcased their artistic skills by carving unique designs.
Wednesday: A delectable treat awaited us as we prepared a delightful fruit salad to be served with creamy custard. We mixed a variety of fruits, including strawberries, blueberries, raspberries, grapes, watermelon, mangoes, and apples.
Thursday: It was all about the vegetable salad on Thursday. Our students eagerly chopped and cut vegetables, showcasing their culinary prowess while shaping them into unique designs of their own.
Friday: The week concluded on a delicious note with the ever-popular banana milkshake. This creamy and nutritious treat was a favorite among all our students.
The significance of a balanced diet:
A balanced diet is crucial for our autistic students, as it supports their nutritional needs, energy levels, mood regulation, gut health, sensory considerations, and overall long-term well-being. By prioritising a varied and nutritious diet, we can support our students and children towards a a healthy future.

A closing note from our therapy team
Motivating activities centered around healthy eating can provide opportunities for communication and interaction development. Engaging in food-related activities, such as cooking or gardening, not only promotes an understanding of nutritious choices but also encourages social interactions, collaboration, and communication. By combining the principles of healthy eating with motivating activities, we can create a holistic approach that supports both physical well-being and social development in autistic individuals.
