New school pets offer fun and learning

Sybil Elgar School welcomed two new pet rabbits this week, generously donated by Harjinder, a member of the school's cleaning team, and her family. The rabbits, known as "kittens" when young, have quickly become a source of joy and learning for the students.
Research has shown that having pets in schools can enhance children's learning, particularly in areas such as reading, communication, and social skills. Pets can also help reduce stress and improve emotional well-being, making them an invaluable resource for the students' development.

The children enjoyed feeding and observing the rabbits, learning about their body parts, and discovering how intelligent and inquisitive these animals can be. With chickens already a part of the school's environment for a few years, these new additions are sure to bring even more happiness and learning opportunities to the students.

Theatre visit brings 'Alice in Wonderland' to life for students

This week, students from Havelock and Woodlands were treated to a special visit from Umbrella Theatre Productions, who performed 'Alice in Wonderland'. The students had a fantastic time, experiencing the magic of live theatre brought directly to their school. The performance was tailored specifically for the students, using a multi-sensory approach to ensure it was engaging and accessible for everyone.
