Macmillan coffee morning: raising funds for a great cause
On Friday, September 27th, 2024, KS4 students at Sybil Elgar School hosted a café to support Macmillan Cancer Support, selling cakes and snacks. The event was a great success, raising £215 for the charity. A big thank you goes out to parents and staff for their generous support, which made the event possible. The funds raised will contribute to the vital work that Macmillan does in providing care for people affected by cancer.
Visit to frameless immersive art gallery
Last week, some of our students visited the Frameless Immersive Art Gallery in Marble Arch, London. Frameless is the UK’s largest multi-sensory experience, where students had the chance to explore different galleries. Each gallery featured famous works of art presented in a unique, interactive way. Students saw pieces from artists like Cezanne, Kandinsky, Monet, Dali, Van Gogh, Canaletto, Rembrandt, and Klimt. It was a great opportunity for students to engage with art in a new and exciting format, making the experience both educational and enjoyable.
National poetry day: celebrating rhymes and numbers
In celebration of National Poetry Day on Thursday, October 3rd, 2024, students from Havelock Road explored various rhyming books and poems. This year’s theme, “Counting,” inspired students to connect counting with their everyday experiences, from counting steps to counting stars. The lessons aimed to encourage students to create, celebrate, and share poetry in a fun and meaningful way.
