How we have used clear communication to support our students to grow to new heights this term
Setting goals at the appropriate level is crucial to ensure their engagement, foster a sense of achievement, and promote continued progress in their learning and personal development. Some of the strategies we use to to do this are:
- Utilising visual aids, such as social stories, visual schedules, or pictorial cues, can help clarify expectations and routines, while reducing anxiety and confusion.
- Embracing a person-centred approach, which takes into account each individual's unique communication preferences, strengths, and needs, fosters an inclusive environment.
- Simplifying language, providing ample processing time, and actively listening can further enhance understanding and expression.
Our students embrace our rich and stimulating curriculum. Here are some of the most recent highlights:
Year 9 students unleash their inner Warhol: A colourful start to BTEC art and design
Our enthusiastic Year 9 students have kicked off their BTEC Art and Design course with a burst of creativity and energy! Diving into the captivating world of the legendary artist Andy Warhol, they've been inspired to produce their own vibrant collages. Channelling Warhol's iconic style, these young artists have skillfully employed oil pastels to bring their colourful masterpieces to life. We can't wait to see what other artistic wonders they'll create as they continue to explore and grow throughout the course!
Earth Day extravaganza: students embrace sustainable fashion
On Earth Day, our students joined forces for a whirlwind of delightful activities that had them pondering how to help our beloved Earth while flexing their communication and critical thinking muscles. The theme for Earth Day 2023, 'Invest in our Planet,' served as a rallying cry to explore living more sustainably.
Our workshops were as fun as they were informative, and our students dove into the world of fashion sustainability with gusto. Who knew recycling and reusing old clothes could be so trendy?
Year 5 and 6 students delve into religious education: fostering personal growth and cultural understanding
In the past weeks, our school has been buzzing with enthusiasm as Year 5 and 6 students delved into the fascinating world of religious education. Exploring acts of worship in various faiths, including Christianity, Hinduism, Islam, and Sikhism, our young learners embarked on a journey of self-discovery and cultural understanding.
Immersed in Indian Culture: A Day of Enriching Activities and Fun for Everyone
For Holi we ran a variety of activities throughout the day, celebrating Indian Music, Rangoli art design, Henna skin designs and Indian foods. As part of the celebrations, we decorated white sheets by throwing special powder paint. Children and staff who wanted to get involved also got powder paint on their clothing and skin, which is traditionally all part of the fun!
Please find more detail about how this fun day was arranged on our home learning resources page.
