Fundraising opportunity

North Somerset Branch Chair and keen cyclist Ben Egryn Nicholas has developed a unique way to fundraise for local National Autistic Society branches with his ‘Legs 4 Hire’ scheme. As an autistic person and a Branch Chair, Ben is proud to fundraise for the National Autistic Society. He values and appreciates the support, information and campaigning that National Autistic Society branches provide to autistic people, their families and the wider community.
“Legs 4 Hire is very simple, basically a branch picks a cycling or a running event, fundraises the entrance fee and l then compete in it on their behalf. The fundraising is then given to the branch that set up the session. To date I'm not sure what the grand total of all my fundraising events have been but is probably at least £2-3 thousand.”
Ben continued, “I’ve been cycling a good 25 years; it is a really good exercise and keeps me fit. I've done 3 charity cycle rides for branches totaling 520 miles. In 2011 I did 360 miles from Land's End to Weston. I rode 60 miles on the Bristol Nightrider in 2016 and in 2018 I did 100 miles in Ride London. I think Ride London was the most challenging. Being in a massive crowd of fellow fundraisers and cyclists at the start in the pouring rain. Being able to keep going and getting over those hills, knowing what greeting is waiting for you at the end and that all my hard work on the hills will pay off to help support others. I did that one in part for the NAS charity HQ and part for North Somerset branch.”
In May 2021, Ben completed the gruelling 113km (70 miles) Jurassic Coast cycling challenge, passing by Lulworth and Corfe Castle, raising an amazing £573 for the NAS Plymouth Family Support Group. However, he is always on the lookout for more cycling opportunities.
Ben has recently been thinking about other potential fundraising events for his ‘Legs 4 Hire’ scheme and is now pleased to announce that he has expanded his Legs 4 Hire scheme to include 10k running events. Ben has decided to take on the challenge of the Great Bristol 10k run on the 25th September 2022 and will be raising money for the National Autistic Society's Cornwall branch. So, if you would like Ben to help your National Autistic Society branch to fundraise, then remember that his cycling and running legs really are for hire!
