Going to the dentist can be a very stressful experience for autistic people and their families. The experience itself can be distressing. You have to lie in a chair with a large light shining in your face. The dentist puts cold, unusual equipment in your mouth. There are loud noises from the drilling and strange smells and tastes.

Trips to the barbers or hairdressers can be stressful for autistic people and their families. There are lots of sensory issues including the touching of your head, cold sharp scissors on your scalp, noisy/vibrating clippers and loud hairdryers blowing hot air at your head.
