At Helen Allison School we strive to give students the tools to be able to access the creative curriculum through encouragement and enjoyment.  We run an arts qualification in the form of the Arts Award and students are able to progress from the Explore Award to the Gold Award at their own pace. It is important that students understand the need to not compare themselves with their peers, but understand that they will develop an awareness of their own personal growth through the subject. We promote the development of subject vocabulary, practical skills, knowledge and understanding and provide opportunities for students to be able to generate their own ideas, using their imagination and give personal responses to key concepts or themes. Through the arts curriculum we help to support the development of students gross and fine motor skills.  

During the academic year, students will have the opportunity to learn about different art forms, artists, designers, craftspeople and architects which are culturally significant, as well as visiting Arts/Cultural Organisations to widen their perspective. We endeavour to include aspects of traditional and contemporary art, craft and design from different diverse communities, which deepens the students’ knowledge and understanding of art around the world.
