National Autistic Society Scotland and Carers Scotland to launch 'Growing Up' project
Published on 01 September 2023
The National Autistic Society Scotland and Carers Scotland are delighted to announce that later this year we will be launching a joint programme of support for carers, called ‘Growing Up’.
The two-year programme will be funded by the Self Management Fund: Resilience, Recovery and Development, which is administered by the Health and Social Care Alliance Scotland.
Growing Up will provide support to families of autistic children and young people, primarily around the transition from childhood to adulthood. It is a test and learn programme with innovative delivery and an efficacy evaluation.
The project will support families in Glasgow, Inverclyde, Ayrshire and Falkirk. It will also provide online support to families across the Highlands.
Rob Holland, Director of the National Autistic Society Scotland said: “This is the start of an exciting partnership with Carers Scotland.
“We know that the transition from childhood to adulthood can be challenging for many autistic young people and getting the right support at this time can make a huge difference. This innovative new project will give carers valuable information, tools and strategies so they are well equipped to support and empower their autistic young people during these formative years.
“I’d like to thank Carers Scotland for collaborating with us and all of the staff involved in successfully achieving funding for Growing Up.”
Richard Meade, Director, Carers Scotland said:
“We are hugely excited to partner with the National Autistic Society Scotland to support a group of carers who often experience no or little support with their caring role.
“The transition from children’s to adult services can be hugely stressful for carers so to have the opportunity to develop a programme of support that will improve their experience of that process is something we are delighted to be involved in. "
More information regarding the Growing Up programme and how to register interest will be available soon.
