Our Royal Patron joins 60th anniversary celebrations
Published on 22 December 2022
We welcomed our Royal Patron, HRH The Countess of Wessex, to a special event at Kensington Palace last month. The event was held to celebrate our charity’s 60th anniversary and raise money for our new advice and support service for autistic people.
The event was attended by The Countess, who has been our charity's Royal Patron since 2003, and 65 of our supporters. Our Chief Executive, Caroline Stevens, opened the event and guest speakers included our Vice President, Peter Cullum CBE, and trustee Stewart Rapley.
An incredible total of £220,000 was raised on the night for our new advice and support service in 2023 that will offer support for autistic people.
In 2023, we will increase our charity’s capacity to support autistic people and ensure they can access the advice and support they need, in the way they want. Crucially, we will launch a new and innovative, pre-and post-diagnosis casework service. We know that pre- and post-diagnosis is a time when autistic people often need greater support, which is why the introduction of this service is so vital for autistic people and their families.
Caroline Stevens, Chief Executive at the National Autistic Society, said:
“We were delighted to welcome HRH The Countess of Wessex to our 60th anniversary celebrations at Kensington Palace. We are so grateful for her continued support for autistic people and their families. We would also like to say a huge thank you to our Vice President, Peter Cullum, for all his support over the years and in making this event a huge success, and to our generous supporters for raising a fantastic total on the night for our valuable and much-needed new advice and support service.”
