Main information
Type of service: Day schools, Nursery and pre-schools, Outreach - education, Schools
Doubletrees School caters for pupils aged 2-19 years who have severe and complex needs. Around 30 per cent of the 96 pupils are on the autism spectrum. We have a variety of provision to meet the needs of pupils with an autism spectrum disorder (ASD), including several discrete classes across the key stages and a number of 'calm areas' to reduce anxiety. A variety of interventions/approaches are used including a structured teaching approach, Picture Exchange Communication System (PECS) and sensory diets. Volunteers may be accepted to work with the pupils. The teacher-pupil with ASD ratio in the school varies depending on individual need.
