Kenton Communication Disorder Additionally Resourced Centre (ARC) is a unit within the mainstream school. There are currently 18 places. Students with an autism spectrum disorder (ASD) are offered a differentiated curriculum to meet their individual needs. This includes students working in discrete teaching groups with high levels of support to focus on key life skills and social skills. In addition, students access mainstream lessons with Learning Support Assistants. The ARC also extends its provision to provide additional support for ASD pupils who are placed full time in mainstream school. Kenton School's post 16+ unit provides opportunities for students with autism to complete further academic study in 6th form, combined with social and communication programmes and developing independence. Our units benefit from strong links with Primary School ARCs, a local Autism Special School and Specialist Colleges.
