Langley caters for the educational needs of primary aged children with moderate learning difficulties and autism spectrum disorders (ASDs). All children have an individual programme drawn up by the class teacher. This is a very specific, but manageable document and addresses all areas of school activity, including the National Curriculum and social and independence skills. School policies enable the teacher to draw from a host of support materials and equipment to ensure a match between the pupils' needs and their programme. Where there is concern for a child's development, progress or behaviour we will draw on other professionals for help. Where a child's needs can no longer be met at Langley a change of provision may be sought after consultation with parents and other professionals. There are opportunities for children to experience the social and academic environment of a mainstream school, or the more intensive environment of another special school. These integration links can, but do not always, lead to a transfer to that school. Parents are generally realistic about the need for their child to remain at Langley, whilst having the desire to link into their neighbourhood primary school. We welcome suggestions and comments about how we work with their children. Volunteers may be accepted to work with the pupils to help out in class.
