Main information

Type of service: Day schools, Schools

Rowhill School is a day Foundation Special School who are full members of the Co-operative Trust KSENT. The school caters for pupils aged 5-16 years, designated for 110 pupils with social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) needs, which encompasses a combination of 'Behaviour and Learning' (B&L) and Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC). In addition the primary provision caters for pupils with 'Behavioural, Emotional and Social Difficulties' (BESD) ie a full range of cognitive abilities. There are currently 35 Primary aged pupils and 74 Secondary aged pupils on the same site but operating as two departments. The majority of pupils are from North, North West and West Kent. The B&L pupils have further associated behaviour difficulties such as attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), adolescent psychiatric problems, attachment disorder issues and challenging behaviour. The BESD pupils have similar identified needs but are functioning at a higher academic level. Over 40% of pupils have ASC as an identified need as part of their needs profile. Our pupils have general learning difficulties in most curriculum areas and are likely to experience a combination of low self-esteem and confidence together with a significant degree of social and emotional immaturity often associated with language delay, and display emotional vulnerability and disruptive behaviour. Pupils can start at the school at any stage in their school career. Sometimes it may be felt that a particular pupil's needs can best be met through other provisions in which case there are set procedures that will be followed with parents, pupils, other professionals and the Local Authority. Once accepted on to the school roll every pupil is continuously monitored so that staff can ensure they are supported at an appropriate level and can adjust our way of working to support the child through their next stage of development. We have an impressive building with specialist rooms, resources and opportunities which include a Sports Hall, Information and Communications Technology (ICT) Suite, Specialist areas for Design & Technology, Science, Art, Music, Food Technology, Construction, Mechanics, Hair and Beauty, Forest School and Duke of Edinburgh award..
