Read more"We observed people being treated with kindness and compassion. Staff responded quickly to people's requests and questions. Staff frequently spoke with people and when they did so it was in a patient, calm and friendly way. We saw that staff maintained eye contact with people, sat down next to them at the table when talking with them, and bent down to interact when appropriate."

We carefully structure and balance life at Pelham Manor to give a mix of learning and leisure. Everyone has their own programme with individual goals based on their abilities and interests. Our aim is to help people to develop greater independence, so each person has a timetable at home which we create with them. It includes home chores such as shopping, cooking and independent living skills, and social activities in the community and with other autistic people.
We run weekly classes in art, craft, sensory, massage, dance and music at Pelham Manor. We regularly run theme evenings and everyone enjoys our beauty and pamper evenings. People have the option to access our NAS autism centre which offers a wide range of activities. We have our own laptop and iPad with internet access. We make the most of local colleges and adult education centres, where courses include cookery, pottery, numeracy and literacy.

The criteria for a referral to this service would be someone over 18 years old with a diagnosis of autism. Funding from a local authority or health trust would need to be in place. There is one vacant bedroom upstairs and one downstairs.
In England the regulatory body CQC is ensuring support providers are providing local services for local people. Therefore when we receive a referral from outside of the local authority area where our service is, we need to demonstrate we have taken steps to explore meaningful family links or connections to the area. We would also need a clear rationale from the funder as to why they are seeking an out of county placement. Therefore not all referrals may be considered for each NAS service.
