Product Approval Scheme
The National Autistic Society’s Product Approval Scheme enables organisations and developers to unlock new opportunities for their products. We aim to give you a competitive edge while supporting your efforts to partner with and champion autistic people.
We’ll help you boost the trust and confidence of potential consumers for products that demonstrate a real benefit to autistic people, their parents or carers and professionals through our independent testing panel.
Why choose to participate in our Product Approval Scheme?
The National Autistic Society evaluates products across different sectors, including:
- wellbeing and health
- communication
- play
- education
- sensory experience.
A product with our approved logo assures your consumers that it provides verified benefits to the autism community and has been approved by autistic users.
All products will be assessed by a broad, independent group of recognised experts, from autistic people, professionals, parents and carers as appropriate, to provide robust quality assurance.
What benefits do you get with a successful Product Approval Assessment?
Upon successfully completing your assessment, you will receive:
- a detailed product research report outlining the overall feedback of the testers and performance against our set criteria
- a certificate to confirm your product approval
- our official kitemark logo to apply to your tested product and its marketing materials
- a free mention in Your Autism magazine, with a ready-made readership of over 20,000 National Autistic Society members
- anonymised quotes from our testing panel, a press release on our website and a social media shout out on our channels to amplify your marketing campaigns and product advertising.
Please note: It’s vital to recognise that all autistic people are different. Our approval rating does not guarantee that approved products will be suitable for all autistic people. The kitemark demonstrates that, amongst the randomly selected pool of testers, the panel agreed that the awarded product clearly demonstrated a benefit for the autistic people involved in the testing. Even if your product does not receive approval, you will still receive our detailed report.
Our estimated timeframes
The duration of the initial contract stage can vary depending on each application, but we recommend allowing for at least 13 weeks. Once enrolled into the scheme, our approval process takes roughly 11 weeks.
What is the scope of our Product Approval Scheme and kitemark?
- The kitemark logo is awarded based on satisfaction scores from the testing panel.
- We do not conduct product safety and standards testing in our assessment.
- This kitemark logo demonstrates the quality of user experience, not overall UK standards.
- Only products that meet the UK market requirements are eligible to participate in our Product Approval Scheme.
For further information, please get in touch with us at customerrelationsenquiries@nas.org.uk. We will be happy to arrange a Teams call to discuss the details of the scheme and how it could enhance your product.
Testimonials
National Autistic Society helped us to gain access to a demographic that we would not have otherwise been able to, and to gain feedback about our product being used by that demographic, highlighting areas that we can improve but also what we are doing well.
