Our branch campaign plans
Published on 23 November 2022
As a group, we hope to start a campaign for better services for autistic people and their families soon. We need to challenge the myths, misconceptions and stereotypes that make autistic people feel isolated and make society feel unwelcoming to them.
The time has come to end the misguided and unfavourable perception of autism and to bring about a lasting change in the public's understanding of autism. Our campaign will help people understand the challenges autistic people go through every day. We want to ensure that the rights and interests of every autistic person are protected and that they have access to the services that they deserve. We also want an investigation of the current state of care and support for autistic young people and adults in the boroughs of City and Hackney.
We welcome involvement from the parents of autistic people and people who have special educational needs and disabilities (SEND), as well as any individuals and groups dedicated to the same aims as us. We want to work towards a fair community for autistic people and people with special educational needs and disabilities. That means giving autistic children and young people a real chance to reach their potential, whatever that might be. It means ensuring they can access the help they need in education, health, care and support services, and ensuring access to reasonable adjustments for autistic adults when it comes to careers and employment.
We want to raise public awareness of autism until everyone knows about it. We also want to see the development of autism services in Hackney and the City that offer appropriate support to autistic children, young people, adults and their families.
