Abbey Hill Academy & College

Meir, Stoke-on-Trent

Main information

Abbey Hill Academy & College is a foundation special school located in Stoke on Trent, catering for pupils aged 3 to 19 years, who have communication and interaction needs and / or cognition and learning needs. Approximately 50% of pupils have a diagnosis of autism

A proportion of the pupils present with more complex needs – these pupils are taught in specialist classes where there is a high staff to pupil ratio. We are proud to have satellite provision based in mainstream schools, known as Abbey Hill Connect. These classes cater for higher attaining pupils who benefit from having access to mainstream provision (where it is appropriate), as well as the expertise of our staff at Abbey Hill. We currently have Connect Infants (Year 1-Year 3 pupils) based at Weston Infant Academy and Connect Juniors (Year 4-Year 6 pupils) based at Weston Junior Academy.

An expansion in September 2021 resulted in two further classes, known as KS3 Hub and KS4 Hub. These classes have a nurture focus and enable pupils to remain in base classes with their designated class team to access a tailored curriculum to their special educational needs, particularly surrounding the area of communication and interaction. In September 2023 a further expansion, based in Norton, provides three classes to accommodate an additional 45 pupils. These classes cater for pupils in Year 3 – Year 11.
