Dr Deeley specialises in the assessment and management of autism spectrum disorders (ASDs), attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), learning disability, and common mental health conditions. Dr Deeley's clinical work is informed by current research as well as a focus on the strengths and wellbeing of the patient. Apart from his work at Wimpole Street Dr Deeley is an honorary consultant psychiatrist in the National Autism Unit, Adult ADHD Service, and Behavioural Genetics and Autism Assessment Clinic at the South London and Maudsley NHS Trust. He is also senior lecturer in social behaviour and neurodevelopment at the Institute of Psychiatry, Kings College London, where he researches disorders of social cognition and lectures about developmental psychiatry on MSc courses. Dr Deeley has wide experience of general adult and developmental psychiatry, having worked with patients across a range of settings, including secure hospital care, 'step down' open rehabilitation wards, supported living, and outpatient services.
Assessment procedure: History and mental state examination. Informant interview where relevant. Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule and/or Autism Diagnostic Inventory Revised assessment. Other specialist assessments depending on need and presentation (eg assessments for co-existing mental health conditions). Referral for further specialist assessments if appropriate - eg neuropsychology or speech and language therapy.
Follow up service: The patient can be seen by Dr Deeley for support and treatment of associated mental health conditions or problems if necessary.
