Durants School is a community special secondary school and sixth form for children aged 11 to 19 that are diagnosed with autism. The school is located in the London borough of Enfield. The school offers a range of sensory and therapeutic interventions and a multidisciplinary approach to pupil needs. The school has developed a holistic approach working in partnership other agencies, parents and families prepare for adulthood. There are speech and language therapists, Occupational therapists and music therapist working at Durants school. We receive support from Clinical Psychology Services (SCAN). There is a strong focus on maintaining good relationships between home and school.
The school is a split site school and we also have a satellite provision in a secondary mainstream school. The school is able to offer sensory strategies as part of its curriculum and has the following specialist areas - sensory rooms, water therapy and soft play areas. Class sizes are on average 8 students and are set according to the needs of each group of pupils. Transition to the Upper site is usually at year 9.

Durants works in an Autism friendly way to help pupils overcome or manage the difficulties and challenges that Autism can present them and their families. Our passion is to ensure that all the pupils attending Durants are supported to manage themselves, be resilient as well as achieve academically to the best of their ability. We offer a pupil-centred curriculum that enables all pupils, supported by their families, to achieve and forge their own path into society and adulthood. The strength of Durants lies in the quality of our staff, who work relentlessly to improve the outcomes and life chances for all our pupils. Our commitment is to work in partnership with our parents to maximise the potential for everyone and to prepare our pupils to make the transition into adult life.
