Green Lane Community Special School and Sixth Form College

Main information

Service categories: Schools and education providers

Green Lane School caters for 200 pupils with complex learning difficulties including pupils with an autism spectrum disorder in the age range 4-16 and Woolston sixth form college where we currently have 27 pupils on role (61% of the pupils have an autism diagnosis).

We have established 3 classes for pupils in school who require a curriculum focus of social communication and emotional regulation support – Foundation Stage, Key Stage one, Key stage two and a mixed key stage three and four class. Additionally, other pupils with an autism diagnosis are taught across the main body of the school.  Our provision has proven to be successful with a number of pupils who started off within the social communication pathway and are now being taught within the main classes of the school. Additionally, our provision has continued to be judged as ‘outstanding’ in our recent OFSTED inspection.

Another programme offered by the school is the Social Communication, Emotional Regulation and Transactional Support model (SCERTS), we hold a commendation from the NAS for our SCERTS work. Furthermore, we have an occupational therapist on site for 2 days a week to support pupils with sensory passports and pupils have access to speech and language therapists. Finally, we proudly run an Autism parents group in which we share invaluable strategies and support for our families.

We deliver a bespoke Autism training package as part of our school CPD offer.

Volunteers may be accepted to work with the pupils.
