Harley Therapy - Adult Autism Assessments

Main information

Service categories: Counselling and therapies, Diagnosticians

Autism is a form of neurodivergence which will have been present since childhood. Autistic characteristics present differently in individuals and can be overlooked in children as being simply ‘unique’ or ‘special’. The demands of adulthood can make traits more apparent and coping mechanisms used in childhood are no longer fit for purpose.

Diagnosis in adulthood can provide clarity and help you gain access to appropriate support and/or treatment plan which can improve your quality of life.

An autism assessment involves our autism specialist observing how you interact and socialise. You will be asked about your past, including your childhood development and struggles with mental health.

They will use one or more diagnostic tools, consisting of questionnaires looking at the ways you think and behave. Typically they use DISCO, ADOS, and ADI-R testing. Your results will then be compared to guidelines put forward by diagnostic manuals. Here in the UK this is the ICD-10, alongside the guidelines from the National Institute of Health and Care Excellence (NICE).
