Harwood Child Psychology
Main information
Type of service: Assessment and diagnosis
Our multi-disciplinary service offers gold-standard ASD, ADHD and learning assessments that are fully compliant with NICE guidelines and accepted by local NHS services.
We only use child specialist clinicians with the highest level of qualification and experience with neurodevelopmental assessments. This includes a number of clinicians who also work in National and Specialist child NHS CAMHS services. We always use at least two experienced clinicians with every assessment, for extra confidence.
Our clinicians have extensive experience of assessing children and young people across the age range, from age two up to early adulthood. We are adept at assessing children and young people with a range of needs, including those with learning difficulties/disabilities and those who are academically high achieving and may be masking.
We are very rigorous and detailed with our assessments but prioritise making our children feel comfortable, having lot of fun where possible. We do all of our work in a warm, fun, friendly and engaging way. We have a reputation for getting even the most reluctant young people through the assessment process.
We liaise with your child’s school (with your consent) so they are on board with the assessment and they can provide evidence for what your child is like in their school environment.
Our reputation for providing high quality assessments means organisations are more likely to trust our findings. All of our assessments have been accepted by local NHS services.
We clearly document everything that we do, meaning that the report you receive will be extremely detailed, but it also means any organisations you might want to share the report with will have confidence that we have completed the assessment correctly.
We are strongly against the idea of “diagnose and dump”. We support our families before the assessment, during the assessment and after the assessment, including options for child therapy and support for parents of newly diagnosed children.
If you are not sure what assessment you need or if you even need an assessment at all, we can offer a screening appointment with one of our specialist clinicians, who will meet your child and family for one hour, at the end of which they will be able to advise on the best next steps.
We specialise in and can identify and make recommendations around pathological demand avoidance (PDA). Our assessment procedure can include: ADOS 2, ADI-R informed parent interview, Wechsler Intelligence Scales (WISC-V, WAIS-IV & WIAT), Adaptive Behaviour Assessment (ABAS-3). See website for further details.
