Type of service: Day schools, Outreach - education, Schools
A community secondary special school, catering for students with a range of abilities and disabilities. The number of students with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) on roll is currently over 50 per cent of the total number of students. The curriculum is broad, balanced and challenging and includes the National Curriculum as well as personal development. Where appropriate, there is 2-way integration within mainstream for certain subjects and extra-curricular activities. A unit provides discrete provision for group of students with an ASD with individualised whole school inclusion options. There is a popular after-school club. Volunteers may be accepted to work with the pupils only for specific events and with criminal records bureau (CRB) clearance. Provision includes 16+ for students where local Further Education (FE) provision is not appropriate at the end of Year 11. Students from the school's ASD specific provision may move to a 16+ provision in different school in the same authority. Other facilities offered by the school are hair & beauty and media.
