Kent Autism Education Service works with families to ensure that autistic children and young people receive educational provision that enables them learn and develop socially and emotionally within a supportive, adaptive, flexible environment where they are understood as individuals. We know that for a significant number of children and young people, this is not their experience of education.
We understand the impact of school or college based anxiety on autistic children and young people and their families.
We can provide specialist support and guidance to parents and carers at any stage of their child's journey through education. Services include:
Working with parents/carers and schools to explore how best to support your child to reduce school based anxiety.
Support to request an EHC needs assessment.
Review of draft EHC plan,
Support to secure an appropriate school or college placement for your child (mainstream, specialist or otherwise than a school or college (EOTAS/C)),
Support with appeals to the SEND First Tier Tribunal (SENDIST)
Representing parents/carers or young people at SENDIST. Family support, including supporting siblings
Supporting and facilitating the move from child to adult services.
Kent Autism Education Service also provides consultancy to schools and colleges in relation to provision for autistic children and young people and all aspects of practice in relation to SEND.
