Liverpool City Council SEND Support Services
Main information
Type of service: Nursery and pre-schools, Outreach - education
We are a group of Teams that work closely together to support children and young people with a range of SEND, including autism. Each individual service is briefly detailed below but further information about the services can be found on the Liverpool SEND Local Offer Website.
SENISS (Specialist Educational Need Inclusion Support Service)
We are an outreach service of specialist teachers supporting pupils with SEND, including autism, from 0-19 (and some pupils with EHCP’s 0-25) in mainstream provision.- We provide training (Autism Educational Trust and our own bespoke packages) and consultations for settings around SEND, as well as assessment, advice and support to children and young people through the Liverpool SEND Universal Offer for Early Years, Primary and Secondary settings. Some additional traded options of weekly teaching, dyslexia/dyscalculia assessments and access arrangements are also on offer from our Service.
Children’s Occupational Therapy Team:
The Children’s Occupational Therapy (OT)service (0-18) is an integrated citywide specialist service in Liverpool- We provide holistic assessments of children/young people who have difficulties managing their activities in daily living and developing functional skills - Occupational Performance Issues. We then plan interventions (specialist advice, therapy programmes, specialist equipment or adaptions to the environment - home or school) around the individual needs of the child and their family/carers.
ASD Training Team:
The ASD Training Team is a specialist outreach service (0-19) predominantly for families/carers but we also work with other professionals as part ofmulti-agency collaboration.
- We support families and carers via consultations (email, telephone, virtual and face to face). We facilitate ‘question and answer’ sessions, workshops and pre and post diagnosis training in schools and virtually, including all National Autistic Society Accredited courses (e.g. EarlyBird) and bespoke targeted training. We also work in collaboration with other LCC services.
Sensory Service Team:
The Sensory Service aims to provide a comprehensive, holistic approach to supporting children and young people with Sensory Impairment (Vision Impairment, Hearing Loss, Multi-Sensory Impairment), with a focus on helping them to achieve their full potential and lead fulfilling lives.- The Sensory Service is an Educational Service which supports children with a permanent hearing loss and visually impaired children and young people aged 0 to 19 or 25 (with an EHCP).
- This may take the form of direct work with a child or young person, small group work with several children, planning work with a class teacher offering practical support and ideas for getting the best from your class, help and guidance with planning, differentiation and target setting, or more strategic work with a SENCo or school leadership team.
EY's SEND Team:
The EY’s Team is responsible for Early Notification to the local authority, commissioning of SEND services into PVI (private, voluntary, and independent nurseries) settings (SENIF), childcare placements including specialist resourced provisions in nurseries, and high needs funding for complex needs in PVI settings.- Early assessment/triage, co-chair consortia to deploy resources and chair multi-agency panels for High Needs Funding. Support is not dependent on diagnosis, but commissioned services are approved based on their expertise and offer including autism.
