The name of the specialist autism spectrum disorder (ASD) resource base in Fred Nicholson School is called Orchard House. Orchard House opened in September 2007 as a county provision for pupils with statements of special educational needs (SEN), who have a main presenting difficulty which comprises ASD with associated complex needs. Most of the pupils have been excluded from other provisions and need a more specialist setting in order to remain within the county. Volunteers may be accepted to work with the pupils.
