"Everyone deserves to live their most authentic life"
Candice York, Managing Director for Adult Services

Candice York joins the National Autistic Society from Community Integrated Care, one of the UK’s biggest social care charities.
Candice explains what inspired her to dedicate her career to working in adult services.
As I reach the end of my first month with the National Autistic Society, I already feel like I’m exactly where I’m meant to be. Everyone I’ve met has been so kind and welcoming.
Since starting as a Support Worker right after university, I’ve dedicated my entire career to adult services. My passion for this work comes from a personal connection to the mission and values of the National Autistic Society.
I have neurodivergent family members, so I’ve witnessed first-hand the challenges they face in accessing the right services and support.
I know how hard it can be for neurodivergent individuals to have their voices heard, and this has driven my commitment to advocate alongside them.
"It’s essential to me that we provide environments that empower and respect the people we support, ensuring that their needs and perspectives are always central to our work."
I’ve always believed that everyone—regardless of neurodiversity, ethnicity, gender or any other characteristic—deserves to live their most authentic life. This belief fuels my work every day and is why I’m so passionate about keeping the autistic voice at the heart of everything we do.
As a leader, I’m dedicated to fostering a culture of inclusion, collaboration and empowerment. My goal is to ensure our Adult Services continue to set the standard in supporting autistic adults across the UK.
Throughout the charity, we are making real, lasting change to the lives of autistic people. However, there is always more we can and must do.
I’m genuinely proud to have joined a charity that is so dedicated to making a difference, and I’ve already been inspired by the loyalty and commitment I see across the organisation.
I’m looking forward to visiting services across all four nations in the coming weeks to witness the fantastic work happening that I’ve already heard so much about.
