How we support people in our adult services
We want to bring joy and the best quality of life to autistic adults we support in our services. Each person has a tailored support plan, built around their strengths, challenges and aspirations.
Our specialist staff use the SPELL and Positive Behaviour Support frameworks to develop these support plans. The plans are developed alongside the autistic adults who we support and, where appropriate, their family/advocate and health and social care professionals. Each plan is personalised and may include extra types of support, such as speech and language therapy, occupational therapy or psychological support.
Each plan is built around 10 agreed outcomes:
- Health, mental health and emotional wellbeing
- Understanding safeguarding - protection from abuse and neglect
- Dignity, respect and personal care
- Reduction of risk and restrictions
- Daily living skills and taking care of the home
- Eating and drinking
- Economic wellbeing, work and managing finances (including maintaining a tenancy)
- Domestic, family and personal relationships
- Social wellbeing and accessing the community, including transport
- Involvement in recreation, volunteering, training or education
A person’s overall support plan will be accompanied by other specific support strategies. This might incorporate a positive behaviour support plan. It is designed to help with individual challenges, for instance if someone is frequently distressed and at risk of harming themselves or others. This is developed in agreement with the autistic adult and, where appropriate, their family/advocate and health and social care professionals.
We want each person to be themselves, be safe and fulfil their potential. This is the basis of everything we do.
