Autism Friendly Award
The Autism Accreditation Programme consists of three different awards: the Autism Specialist Award, the Autism Inclusion Award, and the Autism Friendly Award. It is the UK’s only autism-specific quality assurance programme of support and development for all those providing services to autistic people.
The Autism Friendly Award is designed to support customer-facing organisations of all sizes to provide an autism-friendly environment and inclusive customer service.
What does being autism-friendly mean?
Every autistic person deserves to feel comfortable in their local community, particularly in retail and public spaces where they can often feel overwhelmed. By providing an autism-friendly service, your organisation will play its part to create a more welcoming environment and make a difference to the lives of autistic people.
Delivered by the National Autistic Society, the award is founded upon the years of working with autistic people, their families and the communities that serve them. By meeting our standards and achieving our Autism Friendly Award, you will demonstrate to your customers that your organisation offers an industry approved autism-friendly environment.
Our Autism Friendly Award can be adopted by any customer facing organisation, including those working in retail, transport, arts, entertainment and leisure.

Even though more than 1 in 100 people in the UK are autistic, many of them and their families still struggle to access essential community spaces, businesses and shops.
There are lots of small changes you can make that make a big difference to autistic people, from customer information to staff awareness. Each venue that achieves the Autism Friendly Award will be helping to make the UK a more autism-friendly place by opening their doors to autistic people and their families.
Small changes can make a massive difference to autistic visitors and just a little understanding can go a long way.
