Tim Chan
Tim is an adult autistic non-speaker, diagnosed at three. He has complex communication and high support needs, with many autistic challenges including intense hypersensitivities, high anxiety, information processing and movement coordination differences. At nine, he picked up an Augmentative and Alternative Communication method of supported typing or facilitated communication (FC), which enables social connection and engagement with the world. Realising the importance of this AAC method, his practice has culminated in typing with only minimal physical support. He attended mainstream schooling to complete his BA Honours at university, and is currently engaged in a PhD on the Neurodiversity movement. Tim is passionate in advocating for the autistic community, especially autistic non-speakers, towards self-determination and inclusion. His journey has been long and arduous, but also highly rewarding with meeting many allies and friends along the way.
