Growing Up
Growing Up is a programme of support aimed at empowering unpaid carers of autistic young people going through big life changes.
Big life changes could be anything from leaving school or moving from child to adult services, to the physical and emotional changes associated with growing up.
Unpaid carers of autistic young people face poor wellbeing, discrimination, and are disadvantaged in accessing opportunities in life.
The programme will:
- Support unpaid carers to look after their own physical and mental wellbeing.
- Develop unpaid carers’ understanding of autism and the experiences of autistic young people as they grow up.
- Ensure unpaid carers have all the information they need to support themselves and the autistic young person they are caring for.
- Provide unpaid carers with the tools and strategies required to better advocate for themselves and their autistic young person.
- Connect unpaid carers by creating peer-support networks in communities.
- Enable unpaid carers to make their voices heard.
This programme is available to unpaid carers living in:
- Glasgow
- Inverclyde
- Ayrshire (North, East and South)
- Falkirk
- Highland
The programme consists of four online workshops. The groups are not area specific, so participants can attend the one that suits them best.
