Aberdeenshire Council Shared Lives Scheme

Aberdeenshire Council

Main information

Type of service: Respite and short breaks

A Shared Lives placement can be, a place to live, a short break or daytime support for people with a disability aged from 16 years of age. In every Shared Lives Placement you are helped and supported by someone called a Shared Lives Carer who will share their home with you. All our Shared Lives Carers are part of the Aberdeenshire Council Shared Lives Scheme and the Scheme is registered with the Care Commission.

Long term placements enable people to live their life in the community sharing the home of the Shared Lives carer, being included as part of the family. Ocassional or regular short breaks enable the individual an enjoyable and needs led break whilst allowing their carers/family a break. Daytime support gives users of the service a chance to plan their day with the Shared Lives carer so that their day makes a difference. Activities within the Scheme may include, walking and having a picnic, support to attend clubs and shows, planning and shopping for meals, cooking healthy meals etc. Some users of this service like to continue with their day activities that they currently enjoy, e.g. attending their resource centre or work placement. Referral through Care Manager/social worker.
