The AccessAbility Centre (AAC) supports all students at the University of Leicester who have specific learning difficulties and disabilities. For students with Asperger Syndrome, the AAC acts as a base where they can work quietly, use the computers, have lunch and read the paper. It also provides a smaller environment within the University which can help to establish social contacts. One-to-one support is available from a designated person, usually the in-house study adviser or other in-house staff or a National Autistic Society worker. The support is co-ordinated by the AAC and the external agencies form part of a team of support, including a post-graduate mentor to offer support. This is the basis of support which has worked to date, but the system is flexible to meet the needs of individual students.
