The Autism Resource is a purpose developed resource for day children who come under the umbrella of 'autism spectrum disorder' (ASD) in both the junior and senior age ranges. It was started in October 1995. The resource is housed in a quiet area of school known as Shed Court. Our aim is to provide one to one and small group teaching within the resource and supported inclusion into Coram House (Junior School) or the Senior School as appropriate, for some academic, practical or sports subjects depending on each pupil's needs. Social inclusion takes place daily at break and lunch times. Each week pupils from Coram House and occasionally the senior school join us in the resource for 'Shed Court Lunch-time Club'. An informal football or cricket group takes place in Shed Court or the larger playground most other lunch times, with some younger senior school pupils. It has a highly regarded academic reputation. The autism resource is run as part of the school, but the conditions of entry appropriate for the main school do not apply to the resource. Volunteers may be accepted to work with the pupils. Pupils in years 12 and 13 work with pupils in the Autism Resource for 1 lesson per week. This is often as part of their Duke of Edinburgh Award. Careers guidance comes from the Local Education Authority (LEA) at the Transition Review and thereafter at Annual Review.
