Advocacy in Greenwich

Greenwich

Main information

Type of service: Advocacy (general)

Advocacy in Greenwich wants everyone to have rights, choices and chances: to be able to say what they want and be heard and be part of the community. We work together with people with a learning disability and/or physical disabilities to change the way that people think so that we can make this happen. We provide a range of advocacy services: citizen, self, paid and peer advocacy, training and the organisation facilitates user led conferences and offers consultancy. We work to ensure that people have person centered supports and services. Advocates make sure that people are at the centre of decisions about their lives. We support people to get the information they need in an accessible format so that they can make real choices about their lives. We support people to develop the skills and confidence to take on different roles in and outside the organisation. People with learning disabilities are experienced consultants, trainers and members of our management committee. We provide specific projects for people with learning disabilities from BME communities, parents with a learning disability, young people with disabilities and a self-advocacy project facilitating several groups. We support a People’s Parliament for people with a learning disability, the London Region of the National Forum for people with a learning disability, and we provide accessible training alongside people with a learning disability.
