The Anna Ritchie School is a freestanding special school which caters for a variety of special needs including autism spectrum disorders (ASDs). Almost all staff involved with pupils on the spectrum have undertaken some training in autism awareness, up to postgraduate level.
ASD pupils of all ages take part in whole school activities. They also have access to specialist teaching in home economics, music, technical, swimming and art. Senior pupils, including those with ASD, attend Further Education College in a neighbouring town. The Local Authority provides services from occupational therapy, physiotherapy, speech and language therapy and visual impairment.
