Appletrees is a large detached home offering mid- to long-term care for adults with moderate to severe learning disabilities and associated complex needs. The home is in a picturesque setting within rural open farmland and hillside in the small village of Chapel Row (between Newbury and Reading) and offers single room accommodation for eight individuals. The accommodation includes a large living room leading out to a wooden veranda overlooking the garden. Appletrees aims to maintain a supportive and stimulating environment, providing high standards of individual care designed to meet specific needs, promoting self-help and community integration by encouraging independence and personal achievement in living skills, social development, communication and education, whilst at the same time preserving and upholding individual self-determination, privacy and dignity. Appletrees takes care to meet individuals' physical and emotional needs, encouraging development through preferred activities and nurturing positive relationships with staff and peers. Referrals can be made by a Social Worker/Care Manager or directly from parents themselves. However, before assessment can take place the Care Manager acting on behalf of the service user must be consulted.
