Main information

Type of service: Day services

Autism Together's (formerly Wirral Autistic Society's) Community & Vocational Services (CVS) has work experience and skill development opportunities throughout locations in Bromborough, which provide a real work experience within a full range of activities, including woodwork and creative arts, fine crafts, information technology, media, dance and drama. Service users are able to achieve accreditation for their learning through the Award Scheme Development and Accreditation Network (ASDAN) certification programme. Some people, with support, are able to attain Qualifications and Credit Framework (QCF) qualifications and work placement opportunities with local employers. Physical education and outdoor pursuits are available and the charity has a swimming pool and well equipped gymnasium. People can also get involved in a range of competitive sports, orienteering, horse riding and hill walking; physical and outdoor activities are an important part of maintaining and developing the physical and mental wellbeing of individuals with autism. Our Step into Work Programme provides specific sessions in life skills where the focus is on the development of independent living skills such as managing household budgets, shopping and paying bills, domestic tasks, social skills and helping people to understand choice and decision making. Also offered is an impressive range of horticulture and animal husbandry opportunities at our Raby Hall site and at our newly refurbished garden centre and retail outlet in Bromborough Pool. The organisation supports people with an autism spectrum condition (ASC) using autistic-specific strategies such as Structure, Positive approaches and expectations, Empathy, Low arousal, Links (SPELL), Treatment and Education of Autistic and Related Communication Handicapped Children (TEACCH), Picture Exchange Communication System (PECS), Intensive Interaction and Social Stories.
