Main information

Type of service: Further & Higher Education

Broadstairs College provides the opportunity for young people on the autism spectrum to be educated at their local College.

Partnerships are formed with local Secondary Schools and other agencies to ensure a carefully planned transitional pathway is in place to meet the individual needs of students.

Key staff are invited along to important events such as year 9 to 11 Parent's evenings and EHCP reviews.

An essential part of this process involves educational staff engaging with students to develop relationships and effective strategies in readiness for their transition onto College.A designated area known as the 'Hub' is staffed at all times by those with appropriate skills to offer guidance to students requiring pastoral support , comfort and the strategies to overcome the Social Curriculum .

The Hub provides a safe haven during unstructured times for those feeling overwhelmed or requiring time to settle into College life. The College offer a discreet Personal and Social Achievement Programme for those students that may require further development in the skills towards independence and Social Support.Students are supported to manage their ongoing progression out of College and onto Higher Education and or Experience of Work.

The College also provides Supported Learning Courses for Students that meet with LLDD with bespoke progression routes onto vocational courses or into the Wider Community .We also provide Speech and Language Therapy for those students identified as having a Speech, Language and Communication Need.
