Brookfield School caters for children aged 3 to 11 years in the Greater Lisburn Area who have moderate learning difficulties (MLD). The children have a range of needs, for example speech and language difficulties, developmental delay, autism spectrum disorder (ASD), attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and we provide full access to the Revised Northern Ireland Curriculum. The new school building opened in January 2009 and offers intensive specialist teaching in highly structured small group settings. We have a multi-agency approach, seeking advice, support and therapy from outside agencies such as Educational Psychology and Health and Social Services. Two Speech and Language Therapists work in school on a part-time basis and liaise closely with our staff. A two-classroom nursery unit is also included and this provision opened in September 2009.
