Carew Academy is a special school for pupils aged 7-16 years with moderate learning difficulties (MLD). In addition, some of pupils have autism spectrum disorder (ASD). The school is also able to meet the needs of some pupils who have emotional and behavioural difficulties, where this is their secondary need. All 177 pupils have a "Statement of Special Educational Need" maintained by the London Borough of Sutton or other Local Authorities.
