Citizen Advocacy Support Service (CASS)

Ayr

Main information

Type of service: Advocacy (general)

We are a charitable organisation, providing a free and independent advocacy service to adults in South Ayrshire who have a learning difficulty. CASS opened its door for the first time on the 1st April 1998. Jointly funded by South Ayrshire Council and the National Health Service it covers the whole of South Ayrshire. The overall aim of the service is to recruit, prepare and support ordinary people who will enter into a partnership on an unpaid basis with people who have a learning disability. We also offer crisis advocacy. Although we are a friendly organisation we are not a befriending organisation. Citizen Advocacy is a one to one, ongoing partnership between a volunteer and a person with learning difficulties where the volunteer helps their partner to express their views and so protect their needs, rights and interests.
