Disability and Additional Learning Support, Nottingham Trent University

Nottingham

Main information

Type of service: Further & Higher Education

As part of Nottingham Trent University's (NTU's) Student Support Services, a designated Disability Officer ensures that students with Autism or Asperger syndrome can access university courses. This may include one to one support at specific times with an academic specialist tutor, alternative exam arrangements such as a quiet room and extra time, or regular meetings with specialist in-house mentors to help alleviate stress/anxiety and foster 'personal navigation' skills. Students with autism or Asperger syndrome are invited to the university for an information visit where the Disability Officer will look at their individual support needs and make plans to implement these when the student starts at university. Students with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) are also encouraged to apply for Disabled Students Allowances and can be supported to complete application forms. The university is an accredited assessment centre for the Disabled Students Allowances. The main telephone number for enquiries (Monday-Friday) is 0115 848 2085 and the service has a dedicated autism email box autism.support@ntu.ac.uk.
