Discovery (Discover Horses, Discover Yourself)

Whitchurch

Main information

Type of service: Interventions and therapies, Play and leisure

Discovery encourages interactive studies in numeracy, literacy and art with first hand experience of working with horses in the outdoors. It brings horses together with young people who have physical or emotional disorders including those with behavioural and learning issues. Young people who are on the autism spectrum or who have ADHD can often struggle to communicate. Working and interacting with horses can help them to learn about themselves and other people enabling them to interact more positively. Young people showing severe anti-social or aggressive behaviour can become calmer and more communicative. Once a young person realises what they can achieve with horses they experience an increase in their self esteem, concentration, communication and the ability to control their emotions. .

Referrals through Schools, Pupil Referral Units, Social Services, SENCO's, CAF Teams and Project Workers. .
